Friday 18th September Andrea set off on her longest swim to date. A 2 Way Windermere was the ideal plan, but lets get a 1 Way done first. Why? In preparation for a potential English Channel Swim in 2021. Not shy of cold water and a tough challenge, she giggled with nerves and shared "what am I doing?"
Andrea had a calm morning , the water temp was around 15 degrees, no wind just a stunning sunrise to watch. Feeding every hour we made great progress. Andrea was in great spirits, she would look up at times and take in her surroundings.
Andrea made great progress, but as the cold temperatures start to take affect, had started to slow pace. As she touched the Jetty at Fell Foot it was 7 hours bang on. A sigh of relief and then off she went. It was quite obvious that Andrea was struggling and she shared with us that her head wasn't in a good place. We broke the swim down and reviewed continually, but her pace and stroke count had now dramatically fallen and we had a conversation about where we were at with the swim. Andrea knew her pace had dropped as she had started to feel the cold. We gave her an honest prediction of what was ahead time wise to complete a 2 way and the decision was made to get to 10 hours, a nice round number.
Andrea fought for every minute, which seemed like forever for her as she really just wanted it to end.
A fabulous show of strength and determination and her longest swim to date in a very Chilly Lake.
