What a busy week for Gemini Warrior with 4 swimmers being successfully guided on their 1 way Windermere swims.
The first was the amazing 82 year old athlete Ken Heathcote who had the most challenging conditions of the swims to date. Whilst the water temperature was a beautiful 16-17 degrees it was the wind that was a hindrance and made this swim a gritty one. But a smooth swim would have been boring for this supersonic athlete and after a few hours of uncertainty of completion, Ken made it through and touched the jetty after 9 hours and 55 minutes. A truly inspirational swim taking on no fuel and just a few sips of water.
Next we had a Uswim regular Daniel Ralph who is in training for an even bigger challenge next year with us, with this a mere stepping stone towards it. Dan had a beautiful calm Lake but it was by no way an easy swim. He had been experimenting with his feeding regime and something 3 hours in just did not agree. It was a super gutsy swim with failure not being on the menu that day at all. 6 hours and 46 minutes later and Lake Windermere conquered.
Double trouble came next with 2 friends choosing to take on the Lake together. After training together it was decided that Stephen Bottomley would wear a wetsuit as a slightly faster swimmer and Stephen Tyler would brave it in skins. This swim was always going to be a laugh as these 2 are truly a duo on a mission and it was a beautiful afternoon to guided them. The swim looked effortless and was an absolute joy to be part of. In a stupendous time of 5 hours and 38 minutes they were met by their family and a tray of chips.
