Around Jersey Island

15 months ago this trio started their Adventure together when they replied to an email about our Around Jersey Island Swim Challenge. Graham Hadfield, Enrique Flores and David Randall all 3 with impressive swim portfolios, were destined to have an amazing experience. Their training package included Sea Swims in Colwyn Bay, a 2 way Windermere and a 36km overnight swim.

As with most all sea swims , the team were in the hands of the weather gods. They all arrived in Jersey over the weekend prior to their swim window , however the winds were not playing ball and the chaps had a bit of a wait. Not too shabby an island to be hanging out on though and with the Class A support from our friends at Jersey Long Distance Swimming Association, my chaps were well and truly looked after. Uswim teamed up with Sal Minty Gravett MBE who did what she does best and made them welcome on the Island.

The chaps were having such a good time and their wives were loving the Jersey sun, that they extended their trip and decided to stay on an extra few times. And it was a good job they did, because the call came! The winds had dropped so it was go go go.

On Friday 5th July the Chaps started their swim. 41 miles around Jersey Island with nothing but stunning view points and tidal pushes. Team order was Graham, Enrique then David.

Graham started the swim off and after days waiting he was more than ready for it. Great training too as Graham is a support swimmer for Uswims Dave Quartermain on his Channel Solo attempt later in the month. He powered off and made an fabulous dent on the distance.

Enrique followed. This Channel Solo Champ chose to use this challenge to raise money for a charity dear to him, trying to raise awareness for drastic plastic action.

Last in the team but my no means least was Dave , as keen as a bean to put his hour of ummph in. Always up for a challenge solo or team. A stalwart of the British open water swimming scene he holds many veteran records.

The weather was fabulous and the Chaps were always set for a superfast time. Not being competitive at all ( ye right) they had their sights on Uswims Relay Teams time last year. Supported by Pilot Martin and Jenny they were in great hands and their slick changeovers meant no seconds were wasted.

Sals take on Uswim Jersey Chaps :)

After 9 hours and 42 minutes and the Chaps were done. With their team mates and Sal allowed to jump in for the finish. A drama free day at sea and a Record Time Recorded. Well done Chaps and a huge thank you to Sal, Martin and Jenny and all those who supported them and made them feel so welcome.

Dont hesitate to get in touch if you fancy an Around Jersey Island swim in a team or solo. Or a Jersey to France , I promise you you wont regret it.
