Last Season Uswim's Lisa Vickers was looking for a Challenge of her own. Her own openwater swimming had taken a bit of a back seat with working at Uswim so I suggested getting a team together to get her back in the water. Lisa popped a post on Facebook and before you knew it Team Windy Harbour was created. Their challenge Lake Windermere. The Team was Lisa, Wendy Mellett and Jackie Kubis.
Getting together was tricky with work and general logistics at times, but they stayed motivated in order to achieve their goal. With a wedding upcoming Jackie was loving the openwater time to escape the planning and Wendy had a 5.25 mile Lake as a warm up to keep her mind on the task in hand.
Lisa was the first one in this lovely Lake a little anxious and nervous to say the least as this was her first skins relay swim ever after being gently persuaded to ditch the wetsuit. With a water temperature of around 17-18 degrees it was comfortable for her 1 hour swim and she soon relaxed into her stroke.
Jackie was the 2nd Swimmer in and another newbie to relay swimming making this her biggest swim challenge to date. After stroke analysis by Dave Jackie's technique had really improved and this could be seen throughout her hour swim. Streamlined and efficient.
3rd Swimmer Wendy could not be persuaded to lose the suit for this swim, her competitive nature won with her not wanting to lose the advantage of it, however it was a short sleeved :) Wendy demonstrated her powerful stroke making great headway for the Team.
Windy Harbour was a great example of Team work. A mixture of swim abilities and experience coming together to enjoy a 10.5 mile swim. They shared the swim time with each swimming 45 minutes and then swopping over. After 6 Hours and 37 minutes Windy Harbour had completed their Challenge together.
