Paul Worthington took on a one way Windermere with temperatures hovering between 14.4 and 15.5 degrees and without a wetsuit this was always going to be a tough swim. Paul set off at a good pace and was at the halfway mark with 3 hours, however things soon changed. Paul started to shiver which we know is a very early sign of hypothermia but it swiftly changed as his stroke count deteriorated dramatically and he was losing his train of thought. After 6 hours 30minutes the decision was made to stop his swim. Paul recovered well and knew it was the right decision. Great swimming.
Setting off on a very silky smooth morning was James Airey. This was his longest swim to date and had travelled from London for the pleasure. The Lake had plenty of water skiers zipping around causing a few swells, but it would be boring if it was flat all day. After 6 hours and 22 minutes James had landed at Fell Foot Park. Great swim.
A cancellation had occured and just over a month ago Jo decided to have a crack at a one way Windermere. An ultra runner Jo certainly had the fitness and with a swim club background in her younger years it was evident within minutes she was going to fly down the Lake. Jo had a misty start but it made the swim even more magestic with its Monday quietness. After a supersonic 5 hours and 18 minutes Jo was met by her husband and friend Cheryl . Our last guided swim of the season, and what a lovely one. Well done.
